I can't order Trisana smoked canine treats to the United States? Help!

We are so sorry, we are unable to ship our smoked canine treats across the border.

The short answer WHY?

Because we're a Canadian pet company operating out of Alberta and our bully sticks and pig ears are: animal-based + not classified as “shelf-stable, commercially prepared pet food, they fall under U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) restrictions.

That means we can’t simply ship them across the border like a bag of kibble!

Even though these bully sticks and pigs ears are smoked, they unfortunately don't meat the USDA and FDA guidelines to ship outside of Canada. These guidelines help prevent the spread of things like livestock diseases, parasites, or contamination that could put animals (and even people) at risk.

For amazing products to make their way South of the Canadian border, the USDA and FDA make sure that any animal-based products entering the country are:

• Safe, shelf-stable, and pest-free

• Properly inspected to ensure they don’t carry foreign diseases

• Traceable to their country of origin

We know you're thinking, "but they are shelf-stable..."

And you're right, BUT, for smoked treats like bully sticks and pig ears to enter the U.S., importers need to:

• Prove the product is commercially prepared & shelf-stable, and not just dried or smoked.

• Apply for a USDA APHIS import permit if the product doesn’t meet those criteria.

• Declare the shipment at Customs and pass an inspection at the border.

Lots of work, hey?!

The process to ship dog treats like the pigs ears and bully sticks outside of Canada is complex, time-consuming, and expensive... which is why small Canadian businesses like ours usually can’t offer U.S. shipping for these products.
